New Hanover County Board of Commissioners on Monday sent a strong message on illegal immigration by passing a resolution supporting Arizona’s controversial new immigration law.
County commissioners who supported the resolution said the majority of voters they had been in contact with supported the resolution.
County Commissioner Bobby Greer, who introduced the resolution, said he wanted to pass the measure because Gaston County had already endorsed the Arizona bill and had asked for other counties’ support.
“Let’s make sure that we enforce the federal laws,” he said.
Commissioner Ted Davis, a Republican, said those who are here illegally take jobs from citizens and use up public resources.
“America is a land of immigrants, but we know they are here legally,” he said. “Those individuals who are in this country illegally throw everything in the face of those who have done it the legal way.”St. Charles County in Missouri had also passed a nonbinding resolution similar to New Hanover County’s. Obama has not secured the American/Mexico border and brought a suit against Arizona’s illegal immigrants law so maybe he would like to have illegal immigrants without jobs living around his house. The federal raids on companies getting illegal immigrants fired and not deporting them brings up the question of where or how they will get food and a roof over their head. The only problem I see with illegal immigrants moving into Hyde Park Blvd, Chicago is that they would not let you live in tents, or 20 people in a two bedroom house. But this President could care less about how illegal immigrants live in our area as long as it’s not his home.
