Update – Shooting at Emcore leaves six dead

UPDATE: Its being reported that only 3 are dead, I also read a few reports that say 2 are dead. I guess the news people will get it straight soon and let us know how many are dead.

Six people are confirmed dead and four wounded after a shooting this morning at Emcore Corp., a solar photovoltaic and fiber optics manufacturer in the Sandia Science and Technology Park in Albuquerque’s Southeast Heights.

The shooting took place shortly after 9 a.m. Monday morning.

Emcore (NASDAQ: EMKR) makes compound semiconductor-based components and subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite and terrestrial solar markets.

Until recently, Emcore had employed about 500 in Albuquerque. The recession, however, led to layoffs since last year.

In early 2010, Emcore announced an agreement with Tangshan Caofeidian Investment Corp. – a Chinese investment company located in the Caofeidian Industry Zone in Tangshan City in the Hebei Province of China – to purchase a 60 percent interest in Emcore’s fiber optics business. Read More At SOURCE

Looks as if the US company had sold out American jobs to China, so much for Obama’s pushing subsystems for the broadband, fiber optic, satellite and terrestrial solar markets to create American jobs.
